Drive safely

Our new communication campaign, "Safety makes champions of us all", has officially launched. It has been developed in collaboration with the State Police and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The campaign features Ambra Sabatini, Paralympic and world 100-metre champion, and Francesca Lollobrigida, Olympic speed skating champion: two athletes who embody values such as commitment, determination and respect for the rules.
The concept of the campaign is based on a parallel between an athlete’s journey and that of those who use roads and motorways every day. Just as a champion reaches the finish line and wins medals through preparation and consistency, so too can every road user make a real contribution to collective safety by adopting responsible behaviour, respecting speed limits and complying with the rules of the Highway Code.

Rules for road safety
1. Vehicle in good order
Before setting off, always check that your car is in good working order (tyres, brakes, fluids, lights and headlights, emergency kit, ...).
2. Sleep or tiredness
Make sure you are well rested before setting off, and remember to take a break every two hours during your journey. Don’t drive if you feel tired or sleepy.
3. NO drugs or alcohol
If you have been drinking or are in an altered mental or physical state, do not get behind the wheel. Remember that taking certain drugs can also affect concentration and reflexes and thus impair your driving ability.
4. Fasten your seat belt
Always make sure that all passengers (front and back) wear seat belts.
5. Don't get distracted while driving.
Don’t use your mobile phone and always keep your attention on the road.
6. Pay heed to the road signs.
Heed the road signs, including temporary roadwork signs, and look out for variable message boards.
7. Moderate your speed.
Always stick to the speed limits and adapt your speed to weather and visibility conditions.
8. Drive with due care.
Drive in the free lane to the right and use the lane to the left to overtake, carefully judging the space available and proceeding with due care.
9. Safety distances.
While driving, stay at a safe distance from the vehicle in front to ensure you can stop safely and avoid collisions.
10. Parking and emergency parking.
To make even just a short stop, go to the next available Service Area or Parking Spot. If you have to stop in the emergency lane, turn on your warning devices and call for help.

"Don't close your eyes"
"Don't close your eyes" is Autostrade per l'Italia's road safety education programme for upper secondary schools across Italy. The initiative includes classroom-based learning activities featuring tailored quizzes and assessments, teaching materials for educators and video content promoting safe driving behaviours. The programme also includes live sessions with road safety experts and well-known ambassadors.
Established in 2023, the annual "Don't close your eyes" Observatory is a research initiative developed by Autostrade per l'Italia in partnership with Skuola.net as part of the wider road safety awareness programme for upper secondary schools. Its purpose is to monitor and assess, year after year, the level of road safety education among young people and their awareness of the risks associated with driving. The research is based on 2,000 interviews conducted annually with young people aged between 16 and 24.
