Calculation method

The calculation method depends on the date of your journey, not on the date you submitted your request.

For journeys made up to 31 May 2026, the calculation method previously used by Autostrade per l'Italia applies: the refund is determined on the basis of the accumulated delay and the length of the journey, according to predefined percentages applied to the toll amount.

If your journey is delayed by 10 minutes or more due to roadworks on the Autostrade per l'Italia network, you may be entitled to a refund of up to 100% of the toll charge.

This table helps you calculate your refund based on the total delay and the distance travelled.

For example, if you were delayed by 40 minutes on a 90 km journey due to roadworks, you will be refunded 75% of the toll charged by Autostrade per l’Italia.

For journeys made from 1 June 2026, the new calculation method set out in ART Resolution 132 – Measure 8 applies. In case of roadworks, the refund is calculated using a formula that takes into account both the nature of the roadworks and the delay caused to your journey. In the event of traffic congestion, the refund is equal to a percentage of the toll based on the duration of the congestion: 50% from 60 to 119 minutes, 75% from 120 to 179 minutes, 100% from 180 minutes onwards.

Roadworks

If there are roadworks you are entitled to a refund based on the length of your journey and any delay incurred:

  • Journeys of up to 30 km: a refund is always payable, regardless of the length of the delay.
  • Journeys between 30 and 50 km a refund is only payable if the delay is 10 minutes or more.
  • Journeys of over 50 km: applies only if the delay is 15 minutes or more.

The refund consists of two parts:

  • Base fee: an amount calculated on the basis of the characteristics of the roadworks encountered along the route.
  • Additional charge for the delay: an amount calculated on the basis of any delay incurred in relation to the standard journey times.
