Useful information for hauliers

Autostrade per l'Italia stands by the hauliers to ensure utmost safety and increase the comfort of motorway users.

Information for overpass transits

This section contains a list of motorway overpasses (pertaining to the road network of other Entities), whose design and construction characteristics (1960s/80s) do not allow the transit of vehicles with a gross laden mass exceeding a specific threshold, indicated next to each overpass, within the document.
Any occasional transit of vehicles with a gross laden mass exceeding this threshold must be priorly authorised by the authority owning the overpassing roadway, which must obtain the technical authorisation of the Motorway Regional Headquarters.

To ensure that road haulage operators are provided with correct and complete information, please be informed that the transit authorisation must be requested from the Entity owning and/or managing the road (Art. 10 paragraph 6 of the Motorway Code) overpassing the motorway. The Entity concerned will ask the Company to conduct the technical assessments required to verify the compatibility of the load pattern to be authorised with the structural characteristics of the asset, granting the Entity a specific authorization upon favourable outcome. This authorisation may be used by the Entity to authorise all the special heavy vehicles having the same load pattern. Please note that Autostrada per l'Italia may not directly grant transit authorisations on roads outside its jurisdiction and in no way can the road-owning Entity delegate to third parties the power to issue authorisations.

Network-wide services

Autostrade per l'Italia provides hauliers with 18 Service Areas with dedicated spaces and car parks with over 6,000 spaces reserved for trucks and coaches.
9 Service Areas along the network also offer dedicated areas with toilets and showers.
Moreover, there are 7,530 parking spaces for trucks and coaches located along the operated routes.

Angolo della Prevenzione (Prevention Corner) is an initiative dedicated to truck drivers. This innovative free service offered by Autostrade per l'Italia allows truck drivers to undergo a health check-up in the Area di Servizio Brianza Nord and Arno Est.

The service is available Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Winter operations

In the event of snowfall along Autostrade per l'Italia's network, joint Protocols with the Traffic Police are enforced to ensure the safety of users and the operation of snow prevention vehicles. Autostrade per l'Italia invites all road hauliers to properly equip themselves for the winter season.

In this regard, from November until 15 April, on all motorway sections most exposed to the risk of snowfall or ice, users are required to have snow tyres fitted or snow chains on board, in compliance with the orders issued by the Autostrade per l’Italia’s Regional Headquarters locally in charge.

Users are informed of the obligation to have snow tyres fitted or snow chains on board through road signs placed along motorway sections and entry toll gates covered by the orders.

Lump sum reimbursement for lorry drivers in Liguria

The Memorandum of Understanding between Autostrade per l’Italia, the City of Genoa, the Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea and the Liguria Region, signed by the parties on 14 January 2021, provides for a total reimbursement of €250 million for toll reduction initiatives. Of this total amount, €180 million is earmarked for similar initiatives in the Liguria Region (of which €70 million is earmarked for road haulage initiatives in support of hauliers, as governed by the Regulations approved by the parties in relation to journeys through specific motorway tollbooths in the Liguria region during 2022 and 2023). On the basis of the aforementioned Memorandum, a further €35 million has been allocated for compensation payments in the year 2024.

These initiatives have taken place and have now come to a definitive end.

The Agreement also provided that, upon completion of the cashback scheme on 31 December 2025, any remaining surpluses might be distributed in the same manner in subsequent years. Having verified the final balance available against the expenditure commitments referred to in the preceding points, and in response to requests from the sector, Autostrade per l’Italia has indicated that it is able to allocate a total of €25 million to the initiative in support of road hauliers in the Liguria region for journeys undertaken in 2025.

Consequently, following the guidance provided by the relevant authorities and in agreement with the road haulage industry representatives, it was agreed to repeat the initiative for transits recorded in 2025, under the same conditions. It was also confirmed that, for its practical implementation, reference would be made to the Regulation which has already successfully governed the management of transits in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The following are eligible for the lump sum reimbursement: companies registered in the National Register of road hauliers transporting goods on behalf of third parties (e.g. Art. 40 of Law 298/1974) or in the REN (EC) 1071/2009 and 1072/2009 which have carried out transport tasks during the reference years of the Memorandum of Understanding, passing through the tollbooths of the motorway network managed by ASPI (A10, A26, A12, A7) in the Liguria region.

Businesses that are no longer registered in the Companies Register and, consequently, do not have a valid tax status at the time the benefit is paid out will not be entitled to the lump sum reimbursement.

€25 million has been allocated, net of charges and the initiative’s operating costs, as a lump sum reimbursement for transport tasks carried out in 2025

The unit amount of the lump sum reimbursement will be determined by dividing the total annual allocation by the number of eligible missions, net of charges and costs associated with the initiative.

Applications may be submitted by the individual road haulage company, or through an authorised representative acting in the name and on behalf of the delegating road haulage company, by uploading the relevant forms to the web portal, containing:

  • vehicle and toll device registration details
  • the list of tasks and references to the documentation confirming the task details (O/D) and that the task was actually carried out

If a journey listed on the form was undertaken without the use of a toll device, operators must attach documentation proving payment of the toll.
