ASPI, TRONCO DI CASSINO MANAGEMENT: A16 MOTORWAY BARRIERS ARE SAFE AND COMPLIANT WITH LEGAL STANDARDSA16 MOTORWAY BARRIERS ARE SAFE AND COMPLIANT WITH LEGAL STANDARDS
ASPI’S PROPOSAL TO CARRY OUT JOINT TECHNICAL ASSESSMENTS HAS BEEN REJECTED
Rome, 12th June 2019 - Autostrade per l’Italia’s Management in Tronco di Cassino has reiterated that the bridge barriers on the viaducts along the A16 motorway are safe and fully compliant with the relevant legal standards. The Higher Council of Public Works has recently issued an opinion reading that the attachments used by ASPI for its barriers are “theoretically able to ensure the general performance levels required by the relevant regulation on safety barriers, specifically those to be placed on the edge of bridges”, thereby highlighting the need to assess compliance on a “case by case” basis. Last 7th June saw ASPI suggest that said assessments be carried out jointly with the Avellino Public Prosecutor’s Office based on criteria developed by a third-party academic body such as the Bari Polytechnic. Said suggestion was rejected without ASPI being provided with either the technical reasons underlying said rejection or alternative proposals aimed at complying with the requests of the Higher Council. ASPI immediately took action in order to gain knowledge of said reasons and is confident in its ability to demonstrate the regularity of its work.
