Noise correction
On 28 June 2007, to fulfil the requirements given in the Framework Law 447/1995 and subsequent executive decrees, Autostrade per l'Italia submitted its plan to the 14 Regions and 706 Municipal Councils involved which, over the next fifteen years, aims to improve the motorway sections run by the company. This Plan was developed through:
- a technical report showing in detail some of the works carried out and some of the techniques used;
- charts and graphs of the geographical areas, showing possible sources that add to the noise produced by motorway infrastructures, critical noise areas and possible noise mitigation works;
- tables summarising the works planned in the areas, statistics on expected noise levels, population exposure and indices of the priorities.
The public can consult these documents at the appropriate municipal offices and obtain more detailed information on individual noise correction works planned for the motorway network.
In compliance with Legislative Decree No. 194 of 19 August 2005, which recognises Directive 2002/49/EC, Autostrade per l'Italia has formulated Noise Mapping and Action Plans that fully acknowledge the results of the PCAR (Piano di Contenimento ed Abbattimento del Rumore, Noise Correction and Control Plan).
As things stand and until the procedures of EU Member countries are made homogeneous, Directive 2002/49/EC places "awareness" of environmental conditions (noise mapping) and "awareness and education" (public information) as its main objectives.
Following sustainable development objectives and in pursuance of the Code of Ethics and the Carta degli Impegni Ambientali ("Environmental Commitments Charter") adopted by the Group in 2003, Autostrade per l'Italia fully complies with the provisions of Italy's regulations and EU directives.
