Autostrade per l’Italia and its subsidiaries are carrying out a major investment plan to develop and modernize the highway network.

Other interventions

Other Autostrade per l'Italia interventions envisaged by the 1997 Convention and by the IV Contract Addendum of 2004, are described below.

New junctions

A further 6 new junctions are under construction. This is in addition to those envisaged under individual works and will allow improved highway access:

  • Guidonia
    (A1, between the Roma Nord spur road and the A24 junction)
  • Ferentino
    (A1, between Anagni and Frosinone)
  • Villa Marzana (work completed)
    (A13, between Occhiobello and Rovigo)
  • Padua Industrial Area
    interventions on the existing junction (A13, between Terme Euganee and the A4 junction)
  • Rubicon
    (A14, between Cesena and Rimini)
  • Maddaloni
    (A30, between the A1 link road and Nola)

Tunnel safety plan

Autostrade per l'Italia is currently implementing a refurbishment and upgrading programme for the lighting, ventilation, traffic monitoring and fire protection systems of 407 tunnels along its highway network.
The existing tunnel upgrading programme is set to end in 2013 and envisages 794 interventions, thus broken down:

  • 379 lighting systems
  • 183 emergency lighting systems
  • 71 ventilation and security systems
  • 10 fire protection systems
  • 151 traffic control systems on stretches with a high number of tunnels

Other third lane

Other minor interventions relate to the widening of the following viaducts on the A1 Milano - Napoli, from two to three lanes:

  • Marano, between Frosinone and Ceprano (completed)
  • Tufano, between Anagni and Frosinone
  • Volturno, between Capua and Caserta Nord (completed)
