 Autostrade per l'Italia is the european leader in the sector
Autostrade per l'Italia is the leading European Concessionaire for toll motorway construction and management, and for related transport services. In Italy, about 4 million motorists - around 8% of the population - use the Group's motorways daily. Those motorways cover 3,413.5 km and contribute to the social and economic standing of Italy within Europe, ensuring an effective transport system and indispensable services in (and between) urban areas. Autostrade per l'Italia is owned 100% by shareholding Atlantia (www.atlantia.it) a company listed at Borsa Italiana SpA
Group companies involved in motorway concessions include:
- Autostrade per l'Italia SpA (managing 2,854.6 km of motorway
- Società Italiana per Azioni per il Traforo del Monte Bianco (5.8 km), managing the Italian side of the Mont Blanc tunnel (Autostrade share = 51%)
- Raccordo Autostradale Valle d'Aosta SpA (32.4 km) connecting Aosta to Mont Blanc
- Autostrada Torino-Savona SpA (130.9 km), connecting Turin to the Ligurian coastline
- Società Autostrada Tirrenica SpA, concessionaire for the entire Livorno-Civitavecchia (240 km) motorway stretch and current manager of the Livorno-Rosignano (36.6 km) stretch
- Tangenziale di Napoli SpA (20.2 km), the Naples Orbital road
- Società Autostrade Meridionali SpA (51.6 km) managing the Naples-Pompei-Salerno motorway
- Strada dei Parchi SpA (281.4 km), since 1 January 2003 the concessionarie for the Rome-L'Aquila-Teramo and Torano-Pescara motorways. The concession was awarded in 2001, following public tender by Anas, until 2009.
Supplementary and related services are provided by:
- Spea- Ingegneria Europea SpA, active in the sectors of planning, works management, monitoring and scheduled maintenance by road works;
- Pavimental SpA, a company working on road paving and maintenance;
- Essediesse Società di Servizi, which co-ordinates a pool of admin services, payroll, general services and property management for the entire Group;
- AD Moving, which markets advertising spaces and billboards, as well as working in event management;
- Port Mobility Spa, working on the port services of Civitavecchia;
The shareholdings of Autostrade per l'Italia in foreign companies include:
- In Poland, a controlling interest (50% + one share) of the share capital of Stalexport S.A., a conglomerate listed on the Warsaw stock exchange and active in the marketing and distribution of steel, toll motorway construction and management (it has held the concession for the Krakow-Katowic motorway (61 km along the A4) since 1997;
- In Chile, Costanera Norte, a toll motorway 43 km long crossing the capital, Santiago, from east to west, with a free-flow type toll levy system;
- In the United States, the International Virginia O&M Freeway, and an interest in the 15-mile Dulles-Greenway Toll Road.
The Group has created the following initiatives in activities related to the core business:
- Infoblu Spa which specializes in traffic information on the motorway network
- TowerCo Spa which works in the area of antenna and telecommunications plant along the motorway, generally for a variety of operators (mobile radio transmitters), for institutional and corporate purposes (Isoradio, traffic control systems, etc.). Within this framework agreements have been stipulated with Telecom Italia Mobile Spa, Wind Spa and Vodafone Spa
- In the area of the development of Telepass applications and projects for traffic control in Restricted Traffic Areas in cities, ports, inter-ports and car-parks, the Group supplies technology for the electronic control of access to city centres in Siena, Perugia and Florence
